A Maryland State Inspection is a safety review of the vehicle systems that keep you and other drivers safe. We perform inspections at our Annapolis Rd shop, and the questions we hear most are about what gets checked and how to get ready. Here is a plain explanation.
What gets reviewed
The inspection covers safety-related systems: brakes, steering and suspension, tires and wheels, lighting and signals, glass and wipers, mirrors, seat belts, the exhaust system, and the condition of the frame and underbody. It is a safety review, not an opinion about how new or clean the car is.
When drivers usually need one
Most people come in when they buy a used vehicle, when they move to Maryland and need to title and register the car here, or when a dealer or private seller asks for it as part of a sale. If you are not sure whether your situation requires an inspection, call us and describe it — we will tell you what we can and point you to the MVA when the answer depends on your paperwork.
How to prepare
Before you come in, walk around the car and confirm every light and turn signal works, replace wiper blades that smear, check tire tread, and top off washer fluid. Remove clutter from the trunk and cabin so the technician can reach seat belts and the spare area. Bring your registration and ownership paperwork.
Inspection and repairs in one shop
If something needs attention, we can talk through the repair with you and handle it here instead of sending you somewhere else. We will explain what we found and what it takes to correct it before any work starts.
